Question: What makes the Bible a significant legacy of the Jewish people?
It is of huge importance to the World, even though (at the present time) Israel are not a popular subject or people, due to their self defence against their local enemies; who have made it extremely difficult for them to defend themselves without severe collateral damage!
A few points need to be made, to give mental context to the following remarks.
As is well known and observed, Israel is a world-wide pariah, both now, and in the past Ezek. 22:4; as they progressed further and further away from their Covenant Vows to Almighty God in Deuteronomy; and even into Idolatry; and finally rejecting Christ Jesus Messiah; which placed them into the state of “Lo-Ammi”, (Not My People), at Acts 28:25–28!
The Gentiles then became the main focus of God’s attention regarding the Gift of Salvation in Jesus into the future; up to the point of Romans 11:25–27! This condition will remain with Israel until the events of Zech.12:10; after which they will be reinstated as God’s People (Ammi) Romans 9:25, and will be Saved by Almighty God as prophesied in Ezek. 39:21–29!
There is much which can be said about why Israel is in this state, but the summary is well documented in Malachi; which is lucidly clear!
The “Orthodox Jewish Leaders”, and their “Sages” have held a firm grip on the basics of the “Septuagint” Greek Translation of the original Jewish Manuscripts (which were destroyed in two fires; BC 150 approx.; and AD 600 approx.), in Alexandria!
Despite the many studies by the Jewish Sages, little has changed in what Christians call the “Old Testament”; and those changes that have happened, are well documented by Scholars such as Dr. David Ginsburg; (See: Dr. David Ginsburg: (Hebrew Scholar, Jewish academic, Jewish language Scholar; & Dr. E. W. Bullinger (Hebrew and Greek Scholar, author Companion Bible).
The major harm that the Jewish Translators inflicted was the attempt at the removal of the Deity of God’s Messiah; and is the main reason that at the stage of Acts 28:28; they via the Sanhedrin Rejected Paul’s teaching at the last Synagogue in Rome!
They now have held firmly to that position and teaching since AD 62 approx.; and fervently search for their messiah (human); who they have been saying for the last 40–50 years approx. “is imminent”!
The history, and rigidity of the Jewish Authorities over the time since approx. AD 70, has helped to maintain and preserve the Bible Old Testament; and to see easily the linkage to the New Testament; especially when the understanding of the many errors of the early Church have been accepted, and modified. This has allowed much greater understanding of the progression of the Will of Almighty God to be seen and taught for the 20th/21st Century mind, which has been educated as never before; and this progression is aided by the Holy Spirit of Truth; which Jesus sent us at His Ascension!
